Dominique De Armond is originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Communications with a minor in Psychology. While an undergraduate student, she worked with the University's Netter Center for Community Partnerships to develop after -school and summer programs that serve youth in the West Philadelphia area. In addition to managing a Beacon program at Sayre High School, she founded Community School Student Partnerships, an organization that allows Penn undergraduates to work in West Philadelphia public schools. Through her work in schools as an undergraduate, she earned the Sol Feinstone award, an award given to undergraduates who have made significant contribution to social and educational change in and outside the university community. She also earned the University's Keller Award for Community Service.
After graduating in 2007, she began teaching 8th-grade science at Samual B Huey Elementary School through the Teach for America program. While at Huey, Dominique served as the school's data coordinator as well as the teacher technology leader. In addition, she led multiple professional development sessions for her peers at Huey, Teach For America, the University of Pennsylvania, and other educational organizations. After three years of working at Huey, Dominique took a position at University City Promise Academy teaching 9th-grade science. In addition to teaching she is a member of the Advisory Committee and a stakeholder coordinator for Peer Group Connections.
